The grade 4-6 students wrote the Canadian Geography Challenge in late March. Charlie Simms from 6M was the first place student. In second place was Evan Laurence from 6C and in third place was Jon Earle from 5D. Mrs. Chipman coordinates the ES Canadian Geography Challenge. Congratulations, boys!
Liberal MP for Halifax, Andy Fillmore, came on Wednesday to speak to GH Grade 9 Civics and BH Grade 8 Social Studies classes. He gave a personal, and often very funny account of his first weeks on Parliament Hill. He then took the students through an interactive explanation of how a parliamentary bill can become law. As a test case, the students chose a bill that addessed gender pay equity. Thanks to Mr. Fillmore and his team for giving us a glimpse into your new job as MP! Thank you for making the arrangements Mrs. Christina McKay for your Civics class and the invitation to Mr. Follini's Fountain's Civics class to attend as well.
