In Celebration of National Engineering Month

In celebration of National Engineering Month, the grade 9 students from SHHS and FASH participated in an Egg Drop Competition that was held in the FASH gym on Thursday, March 31.  Grade 9 science teachers from FASH and SHHS, Mrs. Spears and Mrs. Bekkers, grouped students into teams of three or four. The teams were given the task of designing an apparatus around an egg such that the egg would stay intact when dropped from a 10-foot ladder. Students were given a supply list and a limited budget of $20,000 (fake money) that they could use to purchase these supplies.

The winning team, with a well-designed apparatus and unbroken egg, was the "Mother Hens".  Team members were Julia Wiseman, Caitlin Gerard, Gwyneth Fountain, and Sophie Warwick-Baur.  Well done!

Special thanks to the professional engineers who volunteered their time and expertise for this event: Mae Seto and Marcel Lefrancois, current SHSH parents, and Allison Nolting.

Thank you for all the pictures, Mrs. Bekkers and Mrs. Spears!
