News of Evan Phinney, Class of 2012

Evan Phinney, Class of 2012, recently qualified for the Atlantic Regional CET Medal Finals (Canadian Equestrian Team) held in Quebec. She was the only Nova Scotian rider to qualify and, in fact, was the only competitor from the Atlantic provinces to compete in the field of fourteen other riders from Quebec and one rider from Eastern Ontario. Evan had two second place rides in the three phase competition to advance to the final round ‘ride off’. This ride off consisted of a random draw of three horses from the six ride off riders hence competing on each others mounts. Evan placed fourth overall. This fourth place standing qualifies Evan and Bling to compete in the Equine Canada CET Medal National Finals to be held later this month at the Royal West Horse Show in Calgary. The CET Medal Finals will consist of the top four riders from the four regional divisions across Canada.

No rider from Nova Scotia has ever qualified for this national competition. Evan and Bling will also compete at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, Toronto in the Running Fox Invitational Medal in November.

Evan has also been busy at Acadia University. She is in her third year of her BBA degree, is blogging for Equals6, continues to take photographs via her student business Phinney Photography, is once again an Acadia University Campus Ambassador (any SHSH students attending Acadia’s Open House on Oct 17th should contact Evan for a personal tour of the campus.), she continues to volunteer on campus for many activities and causes including being a member of the 2014-15 Acadia Student Union. Evan is also the elected student member on the Acadia University Board of Governors, where she has the unique experience of sitting on the same BoG as her father, Bruce Phinney.

Congratulations, Evan!
