The entire Sacred Heart School of Halifax students, faculty and staff celebrated the Feast of Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat today with a liturgy of the Eucharist at Saint Mary's Basilica Cathedral this morning.  We are grateful to Archbishop Anthony Mancini for the warm welcome.  Anne Wachter, Headmistress, gave the Archbishop a congratulatory certificate for his 45th year of Ordination.

Ten Year Students & Staff Service Recognition

Today was a special day at Sacred Heart.  We not only celebrated the Feast of Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat with a liturgy at Saint Mary's Cathedral Basilica but we also celebrated the ten year students and the staff service recognition.

Congratulations to the students who reach 10 years at Sacred Heart and to the staff for their years of service.

Below are Mr. Tugwell, Mme Gesner and Mr. Marchand who were the original faculty at the Boys' High School when it began on Inglis St. in 2005

Fountain Metro Track and Field

The boys had a fantastic Metro Track and Field Meet last week. Here are the reports from Coach Shoneth Leadbetter.

DAY 1:
Fountain Academy is halfway up the standings in points for all the schools in the city and we are very surely one of the smallest schools.

Qualifying for Regionals:

David MacDonald - 1st in Long Jump, 2nd in 400 m, 5th in 100 m
Max Leeb - 8th in Long Jump
Mark Biddulph - 7th in 400 m, 8th in 1500 m
Finn Eichhorn - 8th in 1500 m
Ian Inglis - 5th in Shot Put
Kurt Donovan - 5th in Shot Put
Kyle Smith - 8th in Long Jump

There were many personal bests but there were also some school records smashed.

Junior Boys 400 m - Finn Eichhorn (taking it from Ben Smith)
Junior Boys Shot Put - Kurt Donovan (breaking his own by 21 cm)
Intermediate Boys 400 m - Kyle Smith (taking it from Henry Machum)
Intermediate Boys Shot Put - Ian Inglis (breaking his own by 55 cm)
Senior Boys 100 m - David MacDonald (taking it from Alex Machum)
Senior Boys Shot Put - Arshan Keyghobadi (breaking his own by 1.41 m)
Senior Boys Long Jump - David MacDonald (previously unset)
Senior Boys 400 m - David MacDonald (taking six seconds from Mark Bidduph who also beat the previous school record)
Go Sharks!

DAY 2:

Well, it was quite a day! Our team were super troopers today; they would be hard pressed to get a more miserable day. It was as wet as you can imagine and the temperature didn't help. That said, when other schools packed it in, we were there!

Regardless of the weather, we managed some impressive results. Highlights are as follows:

- 4 of the 6 relay teams qualified for Regionals (Jr Boys and Int Boys 4 x 400 and the Senior Boys 4 x 100 and 4 x 400). The Senior Boys 4 x 100 beat the school record.

Kurt Donovan beat 30-some junior boys in his first ever discus event, winning overall with a school record throw of 22.50 m

David MacDonald impressed again with a school record and qualifying in the Senior Boys 200 m

Ian Inglis qualified for the Intermediate boys discus with another school record.

Kyle Smith and Finn Eichhorn held off very large fields to qualify in the 800 m and Mark Biddulph qualified for the seniors beating his own school record.

David Sapp and Mark Biddulph ran through the heaviest of rains to qualify in the 3000m.

We had so many very very close placings as well (Robert Sapp and Arshan Keyghobadi missed Regionals by one spot in two different events each, for example!). We couldn't be more proud of the boys.

Overall we had 22 people/teams advance and 15 school records were set/broken!
