Author Jackie Halsey Speaks to Elementary School Classes

On Wednesday, February 4th, the grade four classes had the pleasure of a visit from Nova Scotia author, Jackie Halsey.  Learning Strategist, Arlene Robinson arranged the visit through the Writers in Schools program. Mrs. Halsey read from her book 'Bluenose Adventure', a story based on the real experiences of young boys who worked on the famous Nova Scotia fishing schooner, the Bluenose, in the 1920s.  Mrs. Halsey also shared several pictures of the construction of the schooner and the equipment below and on deck.  She read her book with passion and made the story come alive as she shared her wealth of knowledge about life on the fishing schooner.  We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Mrs, Halsey!

Grade Primary had a swashbuckling good time listening to her reading of The Terrible, Horrible, Smelly, Pirate.  Mrs. Halsey collaborated with the group a drawing based on their imaginative knowledge of pirates. When it was time to say good-bye the Primary classes presented Mrs. Halsey with a bar of bath soap, just in case she comes across more smelly pirates!
