Theresa Chu, rscj, Ph.D. to Speak on China & South Korea in Light of her Memoirs

For the past few years, the Sacred Heart Alumnae/i Association has had a Book Reading event as a fundraiser.  This year, Sr. Theresa Chu, rscj, Ph.D., will be the guest speaker.  Sr. Chu has been writing her fascinating memoirs for the past few years.  It is still a work in progress.  She has agreed to be the speaker this year to share the "challenges and learnings of looking back in faith" as a student and educator in China and South Korea. This event will take place in the large parlour on Feb. 12th at 7:00pm. The details are below.  Please spread the word!

  • 1946 – Licencier in Political Economy, Faculty of Law, Aurora University, Shanghai
  • 1952 – M.A. in History of European Civilization, Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart
  • 1974 – M.A. in Ethics and Society, the Divinity School, the University of Chicago
  • 1977 – Ph.D. in Ethics and Society, the Divinity School, the University of Chicago.  Dissertation on “The Religious Dimension in Mao Tsetung’s Thought” (unpublished)
Work Experience
  • 1957 – 67        Principal of the Secondary School of the Sacred Heart, Seoul, Korea
  • 1967 – 68        Dean of Students, Women’s College of the Sacred Heart, Chun Cheon, Korea
  • 1968 – 71        President of the Women’s College of the Sacred Heart, Chun Cheon, Korea
  • 1981 – 90        Director of the Canada China Program, Canadian Council of Churches, Toronto, Canada
  • 1991 – 2005    Teaching theology and spirituality at the National Catholic Seminary, Beijing, PRC, and in other convents and seminaries in the PRC 
Retired Since July 2005 and living in Halifax
