Grade seven students from Sacred Heart High School enjoyed an educational tour of Ottawa June 20-23. Some highlights of the trip included a visit with Senator Ogilvie and tours of Parliament, Rideau Hall, National War Museum, National History Museum, Canadian Museum of Nature, National Art Gallery and the Royal Canadian Mint. Students participated in a mock trial at the Supreme Court, honed their negotiating skills making fur trades at a museum workshop, went on a ghost detecting mission, competed in scavenger hunts in museums, and enjoyed a leisurely boat tour along the Ottawa River. The tour was organized by Patricia McMullen and chaperoned by Kathryn Bjornson, Janne Lee, and Sarah McGuire.
Thank you for the pictures, Ms. McMullen!
Have a wonderful summer!

Environmental Pledge Ceremony
The
environmental pledge ceremony for this year’s graduates took place on Tuesday
June 14th.
Our honoured guests this year were Lil MacPherson, Poet Joyce Caines,
Green Schools representative Anne Sarah Eyrlich and Naomi Hill. Lil MacPherson
is the co-owner of the Wooden
Monkey and a candidate for mayor in the October 15 municipal election.
Naomi Hill is the Director of Sustainability
at Fusion Halifax which is a non-profit
organization that challenges young professionals in Halifax to think forward
and take charge of their city’s future. Fusion values our community and
believes that civic engagement and the development of young professionals are
key to building a city that we can call home for years to come.
Here
is the pledge:
I pledge to explore and take into account the social and
environmental consequences of any task or job I consider and will try to
improve these aspects in any organization for which I work.

Amy Clarke Heads to India with Me to We!
Amy Clarke, in Grade 12, started a new club this year called
the Pillow Case project. Amy led a small
group of students who met to learn how to transform pillow cases into
beautiful, simple dresses for little girls.
At the end of July, Amy will travel to India with a Me to
We group, and she will take the dresses with her to give to those in need. The dresses are simply made, and students in
the club learned some new sewing skills and shared friendships.
