"Our capitalist
society works hard to shape young people. It shapes desires and forms
persons as consumers as if its life depended on it (and it does)."
Dr. David Deane
A reminder of our
Speaker Series this Thursday night with Dr. David Deane, Associate
Professor of Theology, AST. In his presentation Dr. Deane will illustrate
how a capitalist society forms consumers and argue that unless schools have a
very robust approach to the formation of virtuous persons they are effectively
surrendering the moral formation of the student to capitalism.
Dr. Deane is an engaging
speaker who will give strategies and advice for raising sensitive, conscious
and aware children and teens amidst the challenges of our modern, Western society.
Join
us Thursday night, January 21st, 7pm in the Study Hall.
This is a free event hosted by SHSH Parents' Guild and open to the
public, so please bring along a friend. Light refreshments will be
served.
I hope to see you there.
