Suzanne Edwards, Nova Scotia author and nominee for the 2012- 2013 Hackmatack Children’s Awards, presented her novel, The Trapper Boy to grade 4's.

book is a children's version of her first book Gus, From Trapper Boy to
Air Marshal, an adult novel. Ms.
Edwards was approached to make a children’s version of her first book.
Her
children’s' book, The Trapper Boy, tells of her father, Harold " Gus", Edwards
moving to Cape Breton from England as a child. She told of how her father became a trapper
boy in the coal mines, was a fighter pilot in World War I, and a prisoner of
war who escaped and was recaptured.
She shared how her
father became the Commander-in-Chief of the RCAF from 1942-1944. Ms. Edwards
read from her book and showed artifacts that now are on display at the
Shearwater Museum, a compass hidden inside a uniform button, Commander Edward's
parade flag and photos of her father as a boy and pilot.
