Dalhousie University High School Debating Tournament Jan 31 to Feb 1, 2014

Our debaters had another outstanding weekend.  52 students from across Nova Scotia debated at the Dalhousie University high school tournament;  our teams made it to the finals in both divisions, junior (Catherine Burke and Maria Samman) and senior (Anya Friesen and Sabrina Secord), where our students were ultimately defeated by teams from Truro schools.

Andrew Mayo and Alexander Sapp were the third place team overall in the senior section (beaten by Anya and Sabrina in the semi-finals), while Keegan Martin and David Sapp were the third place team in the junior section.

In individual results:  Andrew Mayo was second in the senior category;  a four way tie had Anya Friesen, and Sabrina Secord tied for 3rdplace with one other—with Alexander Sapp right behind.

In the junior individual results:
Catherine Burke placed 1stKeegan Martin was 2ndMaria Samman 5th, and David Sapp 9th.

These are excellent results.  Congratulations to our students and to all who took part.  When the Dal tournament was finished, our students competed for the right to represent Nova Scotia at the try outs for Team Canada.  (
Rory Flynn and Mattea Roach are already part of the national team).

Catherine Burke and Anya Friesen are the runners up to represent Nova Scotia in that try out, which will take place in Winnipeg in April.
