CTV Interviews Mattea Roach & Rory Flynn

CTV's Sarah Richie interviewed Mattea Roach and Rory Flynn about their recent debate competition in Oxford's School Debate Tournament in Oxford, England.

Background from an earlier post:

On March 15, 2015, the Sacred Heart team of Rory Flynn and Mattea Roach made history (again) becoming the first Canadian team to final at the Oxford Union in the Oxford Schools Debating tournament. Debating against about 90 schools from England, Scotland and Wales they elbowed their way into the final round, beating 89 other teams before losing in the finals to last year’s winners from Dulwich College.
On March 22, 2015, Rory Flynn placed 1st at the Durham Schools debating competition – the largest residential schools debating competition in the world. We are so proud at Sacred Heart of these girls!!!

Sacred Heart Students in Provincial Children's Chorus of Nova Scotia

Three of our Sacred Heart students have been preparing for a performance this weekend as part of the provincial Children's Chorus of Nova Scotia. They are Emma Nicholson-Krupp (Grade 5), Kelly Page (Grade 6) and Isaac Djogbenou (Grade 7).

They have already attended a regional rehearsal with over 80 other students who live nearby to Halifax. This weekend they have two full days of rehearsal on Friday and Saturday along with over 180 students (Grade 4-9) selected from choirs from across the province. The big concert is on Sunday April 12th, 3 pm at the United Memorial Church on Kaye St. Tickets are $15 on the door.

Emma, Kelly and Isaac have shown great commitment to this event, memorizing 7 choral pieces, most of which are in other languages such as Norwegian, Spanish and Japanese. Most of the songs are in 2 and 3 part harmony, and some have choreography to remember also!

The students will also be working with a guest international conductor, Zimfira Poloz, who teaches vocal Pedagogy for Young Choirs at the University of Toronto, and is the current Artistic Director for the Young Voices of Toronto and the Hamilton Children's Choir. This event is organized by the Nova Scotia Choral Federation.

We wish you luck!
