SHHS Amazing Math Race

This week our girls in grades 7, 8 and 9 participated in "The Amazing Math Race".  Grade 7 and 8 students competed in the race and grade 9 students were hosts in each country.

This activity, based on the popular television reality show, had students travelling from country to country as they solved some fun and interesting math problems.  Students were challenged in many areas of mathematics, including logical reasoning, patterning, computational math, spatial reasoning, etc.

As they successfully completed their math problem in each country, they had their passport stamped and were given a physical task for the mode of transportation to get to their next destination.

The grade 9 students who were country hosts monitored the math activities and competed to create an atmosphere that most closely reflected the country they represented.

This activity combined mathematics with physical activity, geographical awareness, cultural awareness, teamwork, leadership, and most importantly, educational fun.

Congratulations to the winners!

1st place - Anisha Rajaselvan and Rachel Latimer
2nd place - Rebecca Chipman, Madeleine Khan and Elizabeth Carter
