Five Elementary Students to be in NS International Tattoo!

Five of our elementary students auditioned for this year's Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo children's choir, and all were successful! Participation in this choir involves a great deal of commitment from the students and considerable rehearsal time in order to learn all of their songs (in several languages) in readiness for a week of performances in July. The Tattoo is the largest indoor show in the world, with thousands of performers taking part. What an amazing experience for our students to be involved with such a first class show!

Congratulations to Olivia MacGowan and Elena MacKinnon (grade 6), Emma Hamlyn and Gabrielle James (grade 5) and Gabriel Shimoon (grade 4).

Pauline Scott's Retirement Event - May 1st

Dear Sacred Heart Family,

On May 1st, we will be recognizing someone who has served our community for 45 years - Miss Pauline Scott.  She will be retiring this summer.

Miss Scott is most humble, and seeks no attention - however, every living alum and current student knows her, every living past parent and faculty member would know her. Her quiet strength and fidelity have bolstered our school. Her hopefulness and hard work center around our five Goals and Criteria. As teacher, Principal, and former Headmistress (twice), she has been a faithful educator of the Sacred Heart - passionately carrying forth the tradition that formed her own mind and heart at Digby-Stuart College in Roehampton, England.

Miss Scott understands that people want to show appreciation, so she has graciously agreed to the establishment of the Pauline M. Scott Bursary Fund.  Please join us in thanking her for her tremendous commitment to our students and her service to our school community. (Participate here.)
On May 1st, I hope you will be able to attend our retirement celebration for Miss Pauline Scott - an extraordinary Sacred Heart Educator.

Friday, May 1st, 7:00pm - 9:00pm
Sacred Heart High School Gym

Mi-carême - Acadian Tradition

Mi-carême is an Acadian tradition of dressing up in costumes and celebrating during the Lenten period. The Grade 7 Fountain boys attempted our own version of Mi-carême. We made our own masks in French class and then paraded through the school, spreading joy to all. We visited Mme Sealy's Grade 2 class and Mme Fitzgerald's Grade 4 class, and we had fun trying to guess who was who.  Much fun was had by all.

Vive le français!

North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad

In late January some of our students participated in the North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad Open Round at Dalhousie. Emma McLean, Gr.11, won this round, Maria Samman, Gr.10, placed 2nd, and Hanna Garnier, Gr.12, placed 4th for our region. Emma's results were in the top 10% of the entire Open Round in Canada and the United States (1700 students participated), so this moved her on to the Invitational Round which she wrote on March 12. Emma made it as an alternate for the Canadian Team who will compete in the International Olympiad in Bulgaria in July.  Congratulations to Emma, Maria and Hanna!
